The National Vaccine Institute (NVI), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and with the support of the European Union in Ghana successfully concluded the two-day Clinical Trials Ecosystem Assessment Workshop held at the Volta Serene Hotel, Ho. Building on the strong momentum of the opening day, the second day focused on practical application of the WHO Benchmarking Tool, with participating institutions forming self-assessment teams, assigning institutional responsibilities, conducting simulated assessments, and developing strategies for implementing the pilot within their respective organizations. Participants also agreed on mechanisms for progress monitoring, evidence validation, data analysis, and the submission of institutional self-assessment reports, marking an important milestone towards strengthening Ghana's clinical trials ecosystem.
The successful completion of the workshop reflects Ghana's growing commitment to building world-class institutional capacity for clinical research and creating an enabling environment for ethical, high-quality, and globally competitive clinical trials. The workshop fostered meaningful collaboration among research institutions, academia, regulatory agencies, healthcare professionals, and development partners, while equipping participants with practical knowledge and tools to drive continuous institutional improvement.
