The National Vaccine Institute (NVI), in partnership with GIZ Ghana through the PharmaVax Ghana programme, is hosting the Award Ceremony for the “Made in Ghana” Vaccine and Pharmaceutical Research and Development Grants at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The ceremony brings together government officials, researchers, universities, pharmaceutical manufacturers, development partners and industry leaders to recognise eight innovative projects selected for support.
More than €1.9 million in grant funding is being awarded to seven Ghanaian research institutions and their industry partners to advance locally driven solutions in vaccine development, pharmaceutical manufacturing, diagnostics and traditional medicine.
The projects cover critical areas including malaria treatment for children, tetanus-diphtheria vaccines, snake antivenom, herbal treatments for hypertension and liver disease, pain management, prostate health, and AI-supported diagnostics and monoclonal antibodies for Mpox and malaria.
The event is being attended by the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh; the German Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Frederik Landshöft; representatives of the European Union Delegation to Ghana; NVI CEO Dr Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey; and GIZ Ghana Country Director Ms Sandra Retzer.
This investment represents an important step towards connecting Ghanaian research with local manufacturing and strengthening the country’s capacity to develop and produce essential health products.
