NVI Ghana
The National Vaccine Institute (NVI) is Ghana's foremost institution mandated to lead the research, development, and local manufacturing of vaccines and biological products. Formally established under the National Vaccine Institute Act, 2023, the NVI evolved from a Presidential Committee constituted in 2021 to develop Ghana's national roadmap for domestic vaccine manufacturing. Backed by an initial government investment, the Institute provides the legal, institutional, and strategic foundation upon which Ghana's vaccine ambitions are built.
As the coordinating hub of Ghana's vaccine ecosystem, the NVI delivers a broad range of functions; guiding vaccine and biologics research and development, supporting local manufacturing and technology transfer, strengthening regulatory frameworks, building national scientific and technical capacity, and fostering collaboration across government, academia, industry, and international partners.
Through strategic investment, innovation, and partnerships, the National Vaccine Institute is advancing Ghana's transition from dependency to self-reliance in vaccine production, reinforcing national health security while positioning Ghana as an emerging vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing hub for West Africa and the African continent.
