The National Vaccine Institute (NVI) has engaged in a series of honest and forward-looking discussions with a delegation from GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, during their recent scoping visit to Ghana.
The engagement comes at a pivotal time as Ghana prepares for its eventual transition from GAVI support—a milestone that presents new realities and critical decision points for the nation’s immunization financing and industrial strategy.
A central theme of the dialogue was the urgent need to rationalize vaccine production from a continental perspective. The team explored how Ghana can position itself to fully leverage high-impact global initiatives, specifically the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator (AVMA).
Launched by GAVI, the AVMA is designed to provide sustainable support to African vaccine manufacturers, ensuring that local production is not only technically feasible but commercially viable in the long term.
These partnerships are aimed at strengthening the ecosystem for local and regional vaccine manufacturing, ensuring that Ghana contributes effectively to Africa's health security architecture.
