National Vaccine Institute (NVI) joined the global campaign against breast cancer by organizing a comprehensive educational and screening exercise for its staff.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Institute’s Human Resource Department to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, provided a critical platform for employees to engage with health experts and prioritize their personal well-being.
Facilitated by a medical team from Nyaho Medical Center, the session focused on demystifying breast health. Experts shared vital information on self-examination techniques, preventive measures, and the importance of early detection.
The exercise also included professional breast examinations for staff, underscoring the Institute's proactive approach to healthcare.
Breast cancer remains a significant global health challenge, occurring when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably to form tumours. According to 2022 data, the disease claimed an estimated 670,000 lives worldwide. Crucially, health experts noted during the session that approximately half of all cases occur in women with no identifiable risk factors other than their gender and age, making routine screening essential for everyone.
Through this initiative, the NVI reaffirms its commitment to fostering a healthy work environment. By encouraging regular screening and supporting the global call for timely treatment, the Institute aims to ensure its workforce remains healthy and empowered to drive Ghana's vaccine agenda.
