The National Vaccine Institute (NVI) has marked a significant milestone in Ghana's journey toward vaccine self-reliance by joining the Ministry of Health and key development partners to launch the Vax & Pharm Project – Ghana.
The launch event, held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, brought together major stakeholders including the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Union (EU), and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
Strengthening Local Manufacturing and Clinical Trials Funded by the European Union through WHO Ghana, the "Vax & Pharm Project" is a comprehensive two-year initiative designed to fast-track the development of Ghana’s pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing sectors. The project focuses on four strategic pillars:

Clinical Trials: Strengthening the ecosystem to support safe and effective local trials.

Technology Transfer: Facilitating the transfer of critical manufacturing technologies to local entities.

Global Compliance: Promoting strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) among local vaccine and pharmaceutical companies.

Policy Support: Nurturing a conducive policy environment that allows the industry to thrive and attract investment.
Oversight and Governance To ensure the project achieves its ambitious goals, a Project Steering Committee was inaugurated during the launch. Chaired by the Ministry of Health, the committee is tasked with providing high-level oversight and strategic direction for all project activities over the next two years.
This initiative underscores the NVI's continued commitment to coordinating and enabling vaccine manufacturing in Ghana, ensuring the country becomes a regional hub for biopharmaceutical excellence.
